Detective Conan Characters

Now it's time to know who were the characters in these romantic, comedy, and suspense anime - DETECTIVE CONAN.

Protagonists

KUDO SHINICHI

• He is a 16-year old student of Teitan High School. He is known as young detective.
• Only son so Yusaku Kudo (a mystery writer) and Yukiko Kudo (a former actress).
• He is extremely intelligent, and even from a young age, was very intuitive and observant. He has long been an incessant and persistent reader, especially of mystery novels. Even he is genius and often blunt, informal approach, he can be rude and arrogant. However, he cares deeply about human life, unable to understand how any reason could be sufficient motive for murder.
• Shinichi is an extremely skilled soccer player, having been professionally scouted at school but choosing to stay at the amateur level. He initially played to hone his reflexes and often juggles a ball to clear his mind, but he is also an enthusiastic fan of the sport in its own right.
• Shinichi is also known for his inability to sing, but was revealed to have perfect pitch. He can play violin, taking after his idol, Sherlock Holmes.
• He is fluent in English.
• Mouri Ran's childhood friend and "romance".

EDOGAWA CONAN

• It is the alias used by Shinichi Kudo in his shrunken form. He had the appearance of a 7 year old boy after being forced to swallow a poison, a prototype called APTX 4869, by two men in black. Even his body changed, he still has the brain and mind of an adult.
• Conan has dark brown hair which mostly hangs downwards just above his blue eyes, but there are also a few strands that stick up at the front and back of his head. Conan's usual outfit consists of a blue suit jacket with a single button and a pair of shorts, even though he has taken to wearing more casual clothing as time goes on. He also wears a red bowtie, a red runner shoes and his dad's old glasses.
• Conan remains very close to Ran, who in return is very protective of him.
• He will often speak in a child-like tone of voice when dealing with adults, but he often gets caught up in the current case and begins speaking like an adult and talk about things most children would be ignorant to. When this happens, he often tries to pass it off as "something (he) heard on TV".
• He love Sherlock Holmes and soccer, so if he talks about either subject in too much detail, he tries to escape suspicion by saying it was something Shinichi told him about. 

MOURI RAN

• Childhood friend of  Shinichi Kudo.
• Only daughter of Mouri Kogorou (a detective) and Kisaki Eri (a lawyer).
• Ran's greatest personality trait is that she genuinely cares for those she loves.
• Ran is the captain of the karate team of Teitan High School and therefore is very powerful as demonstrated when she won her Regional Championship. She can be very brave and resourceful when she wants to be however, she has an irrational fear of the supernatural (ghost).
• Ran can play the piano well. In addition, she appreciates fine art, very good at cooking and household chores, and very lucky in gambling.
• Ran is noted to cry a lot.

MOURI KOGORO

• He is a lazy private investigator/detective.
• He attended high school in Teitan High School, and graduated from Beika University. He was a Judo Ace.
• Kogoro became a police officer and transferred into fire division. He is an excellent marksman.
• He is the husband of Eri kisaki, but separated. They have a daughter, Mouri Ran.
• He is easily attracted to beautiful women. His idol is Yoko Okino.
• He had the habit of being drunk and gambling such as mahjong and horse race.
• His fear is mild acrophobia (fear of heights).

 Detective Boys

HAIBARA AI

• Her real name Shiho Miyano, the inventor of the APTX 4869 poison when she was 18 years old.
• She knows the real identity of Edogawa Conan, and lives at Professor Agasa's house.
• Ai was sent to America as a small child to go to school and was groomed to finish her parents' research.
• She was born to an English mother, Elena Miyano, and a Japanese father, Atsushi Miyano.
• Ai joined the ranks of the Detective Boys and she has come to value them all as close friends.
• Shiho has a sang-froid, mistrustful, sarcastic and cold attitude and often reminds others about the darker side of reality and human nature. But despite her jaded demeanor, she has shown to be kind and caring at occasion, though usually more to animals than people. She's a bit quiet, though this may be due to her caution to keep herself hidden from the Black Organization.
• She likes sandwiches with a mixture of peanut butter and blueberry jam.
• Ai seems to have some interest in fashion - Fusae Brand's wallet and Prada bags.

YOSHIDA AYUMI

• Ayumi Yoshida is a student in Teitan Elementary, classmate of Edogawa Conan.
• Ayumi is a naive and innocent little girl who shows courage from time to time and acts as the team's cheerful spirit.
• She has an open crush on Conan.

TSUBARAYA MITSUHIKO

• Mitsuhiko Tsubaraya is a student in Teitan Elementary, classmate of Edogawa Conan.
• Mitsuhiko enjoys reading science books and takes a scientific approach to problem-solving. He is a smart and well-read first-grader who believes that technology can solve most problems.
• He tends to be very formal towards his elders without regard to the intimacy of their relationship.
• He tends to be pro-active in many situations and think ahead of possible outcomes.

 KOJIMA GENTA

• Kojima Genta is a student in Teitan Elementary, classmate of Edogawa Conan.
• Genta is the overweight, self-proclaimed leader of the Detective Boys
• He loves food, especially braised eel on rice, and can eat more than all the other Detective Boys members combined.
• He also tends to mess up certain Japanese terms with similar-sounding words and is quite inept in reading even the most common Kanji, which on occasion evicts some ridicule from his classmates and friends.
• Even though he is brash, ignorant and outspoken and can be intimidating, Genta is actually very kind and dependable and a good friend.

 Family and Friends

 HIROSHI AGASA

• Neighbor of Shinichi Kudo.
• He's the first to find out the real identity of Edogawa Conan.
• He went to Teitan Elementary School and Okuho Middle School.
• He was the one who invented the useful gadgets that were used by Conan.

SUZUKI SONOKO

• She's the classmate and bestfriend of Mouri Ran.
• Sonoko is the daughter of Tomoko and Shiro Suzuki, the rich family of a large company. She has a sister, Ayako, and an uncle named Jirokichi.
• Sonoko displayed the typical girl her age, acting very boy-crazy, and often mostly thinking about trying to snag the "perfect boy." She would often act sad because she couldn't get a boyfriend, using all necessary means to try and get one. She often dressed in clothes meant to attract boys, and would try to sweet talk her way into being with a boy, by making him chocolates, trying to impress a boy while wearing a bikini, or going to various events that young guys were going to attend.
• Girlfriend of Kyokogu Makoto.
• Sonoko often wears a bandanna backing up her fringe, skirt, random clothes covering the top. Her clothes are often erotic.

HATTORI HEIJI

• Heiji is a high school detective, and the son of Heizo Hattori, chief of the Osaka Police Department, and his wife Shizuka Hattori. Heiji wants to be a detective like his father, and he is also very skilled in kendo and has become a favored tournament contender for his school.
• Childhood friend of Toyama Kazuha.
• Heiji has been publicly declared the "Great Detective of the West", while Shinichi Kudo is the "Great Detective of the East". They were rivals, but later on, they become best buddies.
• Knows Conan's real identity.
• Heiji tends to be lighthearted and good-humored, preferring to work through it with a grin on his face.
• He is a big fan of baseball, and is most of the time shown wearing an Osaka cap, to support the local Osaka baseball team. He usually wears his cap with its visor pointed backward, but if he feels challenged, he turns the visor forward.
• Heiji has dark brown, spiky hair and dark skin, and his eyes are normally dark green in the anime but are drawn as blue in the manga. He speaks with a strong Kansai Ben accent, typical of the Osaka region.
• Heiji's pro is kendo.
• Heiji is also a capable motorcycle driver. 
• He also speaks fluent in English.

TOYAMA KAZUHA

• She is a childhood friend and the romantic interest of Heiji Hattori.
• Kazuha has a hot temper and can be highly critical of people around her. Moreover, she is highly confrontational and unafraid to let others know of her dislike.
• She also has a marked belief in spirits, good-luck charms, and other superstitions.
• Kazuha is also a 2-dan in aikido.

YUSAKU KUDO

• Father of Shinichi Kudo and husband of Yukiko.
• He is a world famous novelist and the creator of the popular Night Baron series.
• Yusaku Kudo was noted for his sharp intellect and deductive abilities.
• He is very laid back and calm, never seen to lose his temper.
• His less tolerable personality traits include a certain cockiness and a very bad touch at making humor.
• Yusaku loves to read, and is the one who compiled the massive library of mystery fiction.
• He loves Sherlock Holes.
• Knows the identity of Conan.

YUSAKU YUKIKO

• Mother of Shinichi Kudo and wife of Yusaku.
• She was once a famous actress, but retired after marrying Yusaku.
• Despite her adult age, Yukiko still behaves like a teenager. She is bubbly, overconfident and attention-seeking, and prefers to stand in the lime-light (literally) whenever possible.
• Yukiko is extremely loyal and cares for both her husband and her son (though a heavy streak of mischief causes her to often tease Shinichi).
• Knows the identity of Conan.

KISAKI ERI

• Mother of Mouri Ran and wife of Mouri.
• She was an excellent lawyer.
• Eri is considered incredibly attractive, and she is often very questioning.
• She has a cat, a Russian Blue named "Goro," whom she cares for very deeply; in fact, Goro's name comes from "KoGORO" of Kogoro Mouri, since to her the cat and Kogoro both act very similar in some ways.

• Eri is highly intelligent and has a sharp eye for details, and is also a skilled judoka, taught by Kogoro himself.

KURIYAMA MIDORI

• She is the secretary of Eri Kisaki.

SUMIKO KOBAYASHI

• She is the homeroom teacher of Conan Edogawa and the girlfriend of Ninzaburo Shiratori.
• She is also the self-appointed (and somewhat unwelcome) "manager" of the Detective Boys.
• Kobayashi is very kind and fond of children, considering them the most wonderful thing in the world.
• Kobayashi is also quite timid and sensitive, not to mention that she suffers from serious stage fright.
• Kobayashi is more gentle, softspoken, cautious, and careful in any given situation.
• Kobayashi loves mystery novels, particularly the works of Edogawa Rampo. 

TOMOAKI ARAIDE

• He is a physician, and in his first appearance, thought to be a suitor for Ran Mouri's affections.
• Dr. Araide is a very kind character and doctor, always lending a hand whenever he is needed. He tends to believe in the good of man and thus can be a bit too trusting at times.

ENOMOTO AZUSA

• Azusa is a kind and young worker at the Cafe Poirot, the coffee shop that is directly under the Mouri Detective Agency.

HONDOU EISUKE

• Eisuke is a person with extremely bad luck. He's constantly bumping into or falling over something. However, his clumsiness belie a sharp intellect and keen talent for observation.
• Eisuke is usually quite jovial and friendly, though very emotional at times; in stressful situations he often lets his feelings get the better of him.

 Police Officers

*TOKYO METROPOLITAN POLICE*

MEGURE JUZO

• Police Inspector (Rank 6) in Division 1 of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.
• Husband of Megure Midori.
• Megure is a capable veteran officer who cares much for his underlings, but he is prone to occasional shouting fits whenever something does not go right or when his excitement gets the better of him. He also has little patience for fools, but tends to be a bit too conservative, limiting his ability for flexible thinking.

WATARU TAKAGI

• Police Sergeant and Detective from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police District's Criminal Investigation First Division.
• Boyfriend of Miwako Sato.
• He is initially self-conscious and bumbling, Takagi is a dedicated member of the Tokyo Police Force and shows promise as a good officer as the series progresses.
• He has a strong intuition and sense of justice, and is very honorable. He has a strong drive to protect others, partially based in his profession as an officer, and partially based on a self-sacrificing trait in his personality. He is always very polite, even when alarmed, and defers to the judgment of his partner Miwako Sato not only because she is his senior, but because he truly respects her.
• His hobbies are playing the maracas and following the international wrestling scene, being a fan of wrestlers such as Bruiser Brody and Keiji Mutoh.

MIWAKO SATO

• Sato is considered one of the more dangerous members of the police, being not at all afraid to get tangled with dangerous men in fights, which she almost always wins. However, she does have a softer personality, in which she is very friendly with the Detective Boys, and especially Conan, whom she considers is a big help in difficult cases. When in action, however, Sato can be quite reckless and daring, which has earned her the title 'The Silver Witch' among car racers on Mount Fuyuna due to her driving style.
• Sato's first love interest was Jinpei Matsuda, whom she only got to know briefly due to his death by the hands of a dangerous bomber. 
• Girlfriend of Wataru Takagi.
• Her favorite hobbies are going to the karaoke, attending all-you-can-eat offers and going out to eat ramen.

NINZABURO SHIRATORI

• Shiratori comes from a wealthy family, and he has shown a large background in skyscrapers and fancy wines.
• Shiratori's attitude is often very cocky.
• Dating Kobayashi-sensei.
• His favorite hobbies include studying architecture, cooking, and collecting wine, including his favorite Romane Conti.

DETECTIVE CHIBA

• A Detective in the Tokyo district, and very often works alongside Inspector Megure and Wataru Takagi. His main duty appears to be to obtain information outside of the crime scenes. Sometimes, he will even go out and substitute as inspector when Megure is busy on another case.
• Chiba can be serious, but he is a mostly light hearted officer.
• He has been a huge fan of tokusatsu shows like Kamen Yaiba for a long time, and was a member of the broadcasting committee at his elementary school.
• Love ineterest of Naeko Miike.
•  He also loves to eat and is sometimes shown stuffing his face, usually with burgers and sodas, but usually this is merely done for comic effect. Nonetheless, Chiba can be very supportive, and is a big help, especially for using his size to catch criminals.
• Chiba has a habit of checking VHS tapes to see if they were rewound.

MIYAMOTO YUMI

• Yumi is a traffic cop who mostly focuses on traffic accidents and hit-and-runs.
• Yumi is a rather mischievous person and a compulsive match-maker.
• She is considered an attractive member of the police force, but is still single.
• Yumi owns two dogs named Suta and Hachi, and is allergic to cats.

MIIKE NAEKO

• Naeko Miike is Chiba's childhood friend. They both attended Teitan Elementary together where they both joined the school broadcasting commitee (although Naeko only joined because Chiba did). She then moved after her 6th grade summer.
• She works in the traffic department of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police District directly under Yumi Miyamoto.
• Detective chiba's romantic interest.

KUYONAGA MATSUMOTO

• Matsumoto is a superintendent (Rank 5) of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.
• Matsumoto got the scar over his left eye from his chasing a serial killer fifteen years ago who wounded him with a katana slash.
• Chief Matsumoto looks to be a stern, harsh, brute man, he can be a very kind and gentle person, only getting very angry when a loved one is put in danger. However, his demeanor changes to complete seriousness and professionalism while at work. 

INSPECTOR YUMINAGA

• Inspector Yuminaga is in the Arson department and deals with arson.
• Kogoro Mouri nicknamed him "fiery old fossil".

CHOSUKE TAKAGI

• Chosuke Takagi is Inspector Megure's senior by two years. He was moved from Tokyo to Tottori in order to investigate a large crime syndicate there.
• Chosuke was shown to be very aggressive at times in an investigation. 

INSPECTOR MOMOSE

• He is an inspector from the Tokyo Police Third Division (Robbery).
• He is a kind inspector, who readily listens to the Detective Boys, and doesn't become irritated even when a case wasted his time.

SHINTARO CHAKI

• Shintaro is the Superintendent of the Tokyo Metropolitan police, 2nd Division.
• Shintaro was shown to be strict and aggressive when it came to catching Kaitou Kid. He was very good at acting quickly by giving out orders. 

OFFICER TOME

• Tome is a CSI member of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police.
• Officer Tome seems to be very passionate with his work.

TOSHIRO ODAGIRI

• Toshiro Odagiri seems to be a very strict person which may be because of his strict upbringing.
• He is also a good swordsman.

JINPEI MATSUDA

• Jinpei Matsuda was originally a member of the Tokyo Police bomb squadron.
• Matsuda is rather blunt and aloof, since he spoke out his mind no matter what anybody would think but he remained cool and professional.
• Killed in attempting to disarmed the bomb.

DETECTIVE KOBAYASHI

SATO MASAYOSHI

• He was the father of Miwako Sato.
• Killed in car accident

*OSAKA POLICE DISTRICT*

GORO OTAKI

• Head Inspector of the Osaka district.
• A close friend with Heiji, and sometimes assists Heiji.
• Otaki once dreamed to be a professional baseball player.

DETECTIVE TOYAMA

• Toyama is a Detective in the Osaka police district.
• Father of Kazuha.

HATTORI HEIZO

• Heizo is the highest ranking officer at the Osaka Prefectural Police Headquarters. He is Superintendent Supervisor (Rank 2).
• Heizo is the father of the high school detective Heiji Hattori, and is sometimes very supportive of his son's desire to be a detective.
• Heizo is very caring for his son, family, and friends.
• His wife is Shizuka Hattori.

*OTHER POLICE DISTRICTS*

YOKOMIZO SANGO

• Sango Yokomizo was originally the Head Inspector of the Saitama district, though he transferred to the Shizuoka district soon after.
• Brother of Inspector Jugo.
• Don't know how to swim.
• Yokomizo is a capable police officer, though with one odious personal habit: he tends to get his face right into a suspect's face, study them closely, and scream into their face when he believes he is onto something, a habit which even he believes is a little embarrassing. Another trait of his is to speak really loudly when deeply involved in an investigation.
• Sango considers him a big fan of Kogoro Mouri's work.
• He also has a softer side, he's caring and friendly.

YOKOMIZO JUGO

• Jugo is the younger brother of Sango Yokomizo, who is also an inspector.
• Jugo is serious, stern, and much less easygoing, and also much more impatient.

YAMAMURA MISAO

• Misao is a detective and police officer from the Gunma district, who does multiple things for the district, including robbery cases, escorting criminals, traffic observation, and homicide cases. Later on in the series, Yamamura is finally promoted to an Inspector role.
• Yamamura makes many unneccessary mistakes, including not noticing completely obvious clues, and even feels fear at the sight of blood or a dead body. He is also incredibly naive and superstitious.. He even messes up everything. He also does not act in good conduct.
• Yamamura still knows the basics of his work and what to do in a crisis. He is also very supportive, and always wants to lend a helping hand in solving a case.
• Misao is a very big fan of Kogoro Mouri.

YAMATO KANZUKE

• Yamato lost his left eye in a snow avalanche and now has an X-shaped scar in it's place. This same avalanche caused severe and permanent damage to his left leg, forcing him to use a forearm crutch to walk around.
• Yamato is shown to be very serious and hard-boiled. He is often short-tempered and has been known to yell at and intimidate suspects.
• Love interest of Uehara.

YUI UEHARA

• Uehara is a friendly and considerate person, which offsets Yamato's harsh appearance and behavior, complementing the two so different personalities.
• Love interest of Kanzuke.

TAKA'AKI MOROFUSHI (KOMEI) 

• Koumei is generally shown to be calm and well-mannered, in contrast to the quick-tempered Yamato.

FUMIMARO AYANOKOJI 

• He is known to be polite and snarky, as well as of noble descent as Officer Sato describes him in the 7th movie. He has no close friends, with the sole exception is the cute little chipmunk he takes everywhere with him.
